I've been avoiding posting about some of our crazy plans until things were more definite, but I figure I should fill you all in on what's going on. Over the past few months, Brian's job has taken a serious downturn. It's not the people that he works with, but the way that things are run in the office. As a consequence, he spends at least 4 hours every saturday catching up on notes and he feels like he has no free time to do anything fun. Note that since he is paid a salary, he is not getting compensated for these extra 4+ hours and that equals a very grumpy Brian. One of the reasons that we moved to Oklahoma in the first place was so that we could get some loan repayment. We figured that we would stick it out here while getting out of debt and then move on to where we really want to be (the lovely pacific northwest).
We found out recently that if he wants to, Brian can "transfer" to another loan repayment site to finish out his contract. This idea got us all kinds of excited! So, last month, Brian flew out to Portland and spent a week interviewing at some various prisons in Oregon and Washington. I know that the word "prison" sounds scary and it seems weird that Brian would want to work in one, but they're actually pretty cushy jobs. He loved all of the people that he interviewed with and they loved him, but since this is the government that we're talking about, they take forever to do everything! We're STILL waiting for paperwork to transfer in order for them to give him an actual job offer. boo.
But since we know that we want to get out of here sometime in the near future, last night we met with a realtor and put our house up for sale. We're nervous because this is our first house and we've never had to do this whole process before. But we're crossing our fingers that something will work out. If by some miracle, our house sells really ridiculously fast, we'll have to find a rental to move into for a couple of months until the baby is born since at this point, I'm getting too far along in my pregnancy to be traveling across the country. If it takes forever to sell, then who knows. But this is what is constantly on our minds these days.
